Whose Truth—Whose Creativity? A Critique of Postmodern Art

Postmodernism swept the 20th century into an era of chaos, and its philosophy continues to pervade the world today, particularly the art world. Postmodern art theory, devised by early 20th century artist Marcel Duchamp, posits that one creates art through a conscious decision-making process called retinal art. Collage artist and author George Sakkal states that, based on neurological research, the postmodern art theory has done extensive damage to the art world and needs to be called out. In his new book, Whose Truth—Whose Creativity? Why Postmodern Art Is a Cultural Damaging Mistake and How Neuroscience Can Prove This, A 21st Century Art Manifesto, George Sakkal brings even more light to the problems of postmodern art through neuroscientific evidence.

The Works of George Sakkal

Sakkal is the author of not one but two books on the subject of postmodern art theory and neurological science. After the American Arts Quarterly Journal published his article titled “The Problem with Postmodern Art Theory” in 2009, Sakkal began an extensive and detailed study of the way the brain relates to human creativity, its unconscious vs. conscious decisions. This study is ongoing; learning never ends. In this period, Sakkal discovered the function of the brain’s creative decision-making process. This he called CUVISM, Cognitive Unconscious Visual Creativity. In 2015, he published his first book on the subject: CUVISM: Cognitive Unconscious Visual Creativity The Human Response, which delves into his research and the postmodern and modern art theories. His newest book, Whose Truth—Whose Creativity, expounds on the issues of postmodern art theory itself.

CUVISM Fine Art

CUVISM fine art is the method of creating art through the subconscious mind. According to Sakkal’s research, the subconscious mind is the driving force behind the creation of fine art. Every artist throughout time possesses this ability to create, from the artists of cave paintings to the fine artists of today. It is the outpouring of our human experience and knowledge, stored in the memory, into a pleasing visual form.

All of the collage art that George Sakkal has produced is proof of what the practice of CUVISM as the driving artistic force can do: explore his online galleries to see for yourself the myriad of artworks produced through this art methodology.
